Dr Michael Roberts is the founder, principal optometrist and clinical director of Eye See You Optometry. Over an 18-year career he has performed more than 25,000 comprehensive eye examinations, with a clinical interest in mobile and aged-care optometry that began during his hospital placements as an undergraduate. After completing a Bachelor of Optometry (Honours) and a Master of Optometry at the Queensland University of Technology, he held positions in private practice and in hospital outpatient clinics before founding Eye See You Optometry to address the access gap between traditional clinic-based optometry and the rapidly ageing Australian population.
Michael holds a therapeutic-medicines endorsement from the Optometry Board of Australia, allowing him to prescribe scheduled ocular medications, and has completed continuing-professional-development modules in dementia-friendly examination, ocular pharmacology for the older patient, and shared care for cataract and glaucoma. He maintains current AHPRA registration, professional indemnity insurance, and a current National Police Check, and supplies copies of those credentials to every facility he services on request.
Within Eye See You Optometry, Michael is responsible for clinical governance: he writes the examination protocols every clinician on the team uses, supervises new clinicians on their first facility visits, conducts the quarterly clinical audit, and is the named reviewer for the practice's published patient and family-facing health content. He sits on the practice's compliance committee responsible for aligning operations to Aged Care Quality Standards 3 and 5.
His clinical interests sit at the intersection of cognition and vision. Working extensively with residents living with dementia has shaped a practical, objective-measurement-led examination style that does not rely on a patient being able to read a chart. He lectures regularly to nursing staff and aged-care GPs on the relationship between unaddressed refractive error, visual hallucinations in Lewy-body and Charles-Bonnet syndromes, and falls risk in the elderly.
Outside the practice he is a regular contributor to professional CPD events on aged-care and mobile-optometry topics, and has been quoted in industry press on the clinical and operational realities of delivering eye care at the bedside in Australian residential aged care.
