Cataract surgery and other eye procedures are usually straightforward, but the post-operative pathway involves multiple appointments — refraction for new glasses, complication monitoring, and follow-up of the second eye. For older adults and anyone recovering at home, those appointments are often the hardest part of the whole process.
Eye See You Optometry provides post-operative optometry visits in the patient's home. We review surgical outcomes, refract for the new prescription once the eye has stabilised, monitor for posterior capsule opacification and other late complications, and coordinate with the operating surgeon where useful.
Visits are timed to fit the surgical recovery timeline, typically four to six weeks after the procedure, with follow-up as needed. Comprehensive examinations are Medicare bulk billed for eligible patients.
Cataract surgery dramatically improves quality of life — better vision, fewer falls, often improved cognition, and a clear reduction in depressive symptoms. But the benefit depends on completing the post-operative pathway: getting the new glasses prescription right, monitoring for complications, and treating the second eye when it's appropriate.
For patients recovering at home — particularly older adults or those with limited mobility — that pathway is often skipped or delayed. The result is patients who had surgery six months ago still wearing the wrong prescription, or who have undetected posterior capsule opacification slowly reducing their vision again.
Mobile post-operative optometry closes that gap. Every component of the post-operative pathway can be delivered at home, on a schedule that fits recovery rather than a clinic diary.
Comprehensive post-operative eye examination at home, typically 4-6 weeks after surgery, to assess healing and visual outcome.
Once the eye has stabilised, we refract for the new prescription on-site and dispense glasses to the patient's address.
Ongoing monitoring for posterior capsule opacification — a common late complication treatable with simple YAG laser.
We coordinate with the operating ophthalmologist where helpful and refer back for any complications requiring specialist review.
Clear written reports for the patient, family, or Power of Attorney representatives.
Comprehensive post-operative examinations are Medicare bulk billed for eligible patients.
Specialist mobile optometry built around the realities of residential aged care.
