    A clearer clinical picture

More than a vision check. A record of retinal health.

Our fundus camera captures detailed photographs of the retina and optic disc. That visual record supports assessment of diabetic retinal changes, the optic nerve in glaucoma and the macula in age-related macular degeneration. Comparing images over time can help clinicians assess change and plan follow-up.

Without photographic documentation, clinicians do not have the same image record to compare at future visits or share with another practitioner. We bring that capability into the resident’s care setting as part of a comprehensive examination.

It is not a standalone screening shortcut or a replacement for other tests. Imaging is considered alongside the resident’s history, symptoms, vision and clinical findings, and only where cooperation and comfort allow.

    Focused eye-disease care

Diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration deserve ongoing attention.

    Diabetic eye care

Diabetes can affect the retinal blood vessels before a resident notices a change in vision. Retinal examination and fundus photography, where suitable, help document signs of diabetic retinopathy and guide monitoring or referral.

    Glaucoma assessment and monitoring

Glaucoma can damage the optic nerve with few early symptoms. We assess eye pressure and optic nerve appearance, using photographs to document findings where appropriate.

    Macular degeneration

The macula supports the central vision residents use for reading and recognising faces. We assess macular health and use retinal photographs to document visible changes where suitable.

    What your team can expect

A service built around clinical care and practical coordination.

    Comprehensive examination

A considered assessment of vision, eye health and the concerns that matter to each resident.

    Retinal documentation

Fundus photography can form part of the examination when clinically appropriate and feasible.

    Respect for the daily rhythm

We discuss a practical approach with your nominated contact before any visit is arranged.

    Clear next steps

Findings and recommendations are communicated clearly, with referral pathways used where indicated.

    Diagnosis and management

The photograph is the beginning of a clinical conversation.

Eye disease is not managed from an image alone. Our optometrist integrates imaging with comprehensive examination findings, then provides care within optometry scope. When a resident needs broader medical or specialist input, we coordinate with their GP and/or ophthalmologist.

    Established local care

A Hervey Bay service and referral network around your residents.

We have been servicing Hervey Bay for years. Our approach connects on-site optometry with your care team, the resident’s GP and local ophthalmology services when further care is needed.

    1. 01

      Coordinate the visit

We work with your nominated contact to plan examinations around resident needs, consent and the facility’s daily routine.

    2. 02

      Share a clear care plan

Examination findings, recommendations and follow-up needs are communicated to the care team and, with appropriate consent, the resident’s family or representative and GP.

    3. 03

      Connect with further care

When needed, we coordinate local ophthalmology referrals and communicate the clinical concern and urgency. Specialist availability and fees are confirmed by the receiving service.

    Questions, answered

    For Hervey Bay facility managers

Is there a cost to our facility?+

There is no cost to your facility for the optometry visit. Comprehensive eye examinations are bulk billed for eligible residents. We confirm Medicare eligibility and discuss any separate costs, such as spectacles or external specialist services, before arrangements are made.

How do you support diabetic eye care, glaucoma and macular degeneration?+

We combine comprehensive eye examinations with fundus photography where suitable to assess retinal and optic nerve changes, document findings and guide follow-up. Photographs support comparison over time but do not replace other necessary tests. Glaucoma may require visual field testing and OCT, and macular disease may also need OCT and ophthalmology assessment. We coordinate further assessment and treatment with the resident’s GP and ophthalmologist when indicated.

How does your Hervey Bay referral network support residents?+

We work with your care team and the resident’s GP, coordinating referrals to local ophthalmology services where appropriate. Findings, urgency and follow-up recommendations are communicated so your team understands the next steps. Specialist availability, acceptance and any fees are confirmed by the receiving service.

What does fundus photography add to an aged-care eye examination?+

A fundus photograph records the back of the eye, including the retina and optic disc. Where clinically suitable, it can support the optometrist’s assessment, provide a point of comparison over time, and assist communication when referral is needed.

Can every resident have retinal imaging?+

Not always. Imaging is subject to clinical suitability and a resident’s ability to cooperate comfortably. The optometrist will decide whether it is appropriate as part of the examination.

Does a retinal photograph replace other eye tests?+

No. Fundus photography is one part of a comprehensive eye examination. It does not replace other clinical tests, history-taking or assessment that may be needed for an individual resident.

What happens when an eye health concern needs further care?+

Within optometry scope, Eye See You can provide ongoing management and clear clinical communication. When specialist or broader medical input is appropriate, care is coordinated with the resident’s GP and/or ophthalmologist.

How do we start a conversation about a Hervey Bay facility visit?+

Use the enquiry form below or call the practice. We will talk through your setting, resident needs and practical considerations before confirming whether and how a visit can be arranged.
